The Data Story

Coming from a country where gun violence is rare, I was struck by the frequency of shootings in Boston. This dashboard tells the story of gun violence patterns in the city, answering critical questions: Who are the victims? Where and when do these incidents occur? The data reveals a complex picture - while there's been a 41% decline from 223 incidents in 2015 to 132 in 2023, certain communities remain disproportionately affected.

Design Decisions

Used Tableau Prep Builder to clean and structure raw city data. Designed multiple complementary views: trend lines showing decline over time with a 2020 peak, geographic heat maps highlighting Dorchester as the primary hotspot, demographic breakdowns, and temporal analysis revealing most shootings occur between 10-11 PM.
